The drive-thru lane is unique to food service and receives less maintenance attention than almost any surface of comparable importance. It carries a substantial share of the site's revenue, it is visible to every customer using it, and it accumulates a distinctive combination of contamination that no other commercial surface produces.

Menu boards and their surrounds, order-point canopies, speaker posts, lane bollards, height bars, and directional signage all sit within a meter of a stationary customer who is looking directly at them.

Including these in the drive-thru scope is inexpensive because the surfaces are small, and it addresses the part of the lane customers actually examine while waiting.

Frequency

The window position and immediate approach justify the shortest cycle on the lane β€” weekly visual inspection with frequent targeted service. The full lane, including order point, queue, and edges, warrants a moderate cycle set from observed condition.
